Every business journey begins with an idea, but often, it is perseverance that turns that idea into something meaningful.
For Annice (Anisah) Tan Su Qin, founder of Mushling Sprout Co, the motivation to start her business came from a simple but powerful vision: to offer packaging services with low minimum order quantities, making it easier for small businesses to access professional solutions. Yet behind this idea lay a deeply personal story of resilience. During a challenging period marked by financial difficulties, health concerns, and personal struggles, she found herself returning to drawing, a passion she had set aside years earlier.
It was during quiet moments at home, watching her children sleep, that clarity emerged. She began to imagine a future where her creativity could become a source of income, one that would allow her to support her family while spending more meaningful time with them. That vision became the foundation of her entrepreneurial journey.
Participating in the Maybank myimpact Microbusiness Programme played a pivotal role in transforming her idea into a structured business plan. Through guided training and mentorship, she learned how to organise her business strategy, clarify her goals, and build the confidence needed to take her next steps forward. What once felt overwhelming began to feel achievable.
The journey was not without challenges. Committing to six consecutive Saturday sessions required careful time management, especially as a mother with caregiving responsibilities. Support from SMCCI — including the provision of childcare — made it possible for her to fully focus on learning. Even when illness caused her to miss a session, the programme’s trainers remained accessible, ensuring she could catch up and stay motivated.
Being named one of the top finalists to receive S$5,000 in seed funding was a moment Annice never imagined for herself. After enduring a period filled with uncertainty — balancing financial strain, health challenges, and the emotional weight of providing for her family — this recognition felt deeply personal. It was not just a grant, but a reminder that her perseverance, late nights, and quiet determination had not gone unseen.

A moment of pride as Ms Anisah is embraced by her family, a reminder that behind every entrepreneurial journey is support, sacrifice, and resilience.
For Annice, the funding represented more than capital. It was a renewed sense of hope — proof that even in her most difficult moments, choosing not to give up mattered. With the support received, she can now invest in essential equipment such as printing and cutting machines, allowing Mushling Sprout Co to take its first confident steps forward as a professional operation.
More importantly, the experience gave her something invaluable: belief. Belief in her abilities, in her journey, and in the future she is building for her children. With a clear action plan and steady confidence, Annice moves ahead knowing that what once began as a quiet dream has now become a meaningful path toward stability, purpose, and growth.
Looking ahead, Annice’s aspirations go beyond personal success. Having experienced firsthand the challenges faced by mothers from lower-income backgrounds, she hopes to one day support other women navigating similar journeys. Through collaboration with organisations that assist women and single mothers, she envisions building a more supportive and inclusive entrepreneurial community.
At the heart of her story is a simple but powerful reminder: entrepreneurship does not require grand beginnings. With the right guidance, support, and belief, even the smallest idea can grow into something meaningful.
As Annice often shares with fellow entrepreneurs, “Even a small idea can give rise to a big dream.”
