Singapore, 4 June 2026 — The Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SMCCI) highlighted several key organisational milestones at its 67th Annual General Meeting (AGM), reflecting the Chamber’s continued commitment to supporting businesses, strengthening community impact, and positioning members for future growth.

Supporting Businesses at Every Stage of Growth

Over the past year, SMCCI deepened its impact on Singapore’s business community by engaging more than 5,000 businesses and stakeholders through a wide range of capability-building, mentorship, funding, and market access initiatives. The Chamber also facilitated business connections and overseas engagement opportunities for more than 100 enterprises, helping entrepreneurs strengthen capabilities, expand networks, and explore new avenues for growth.

These efforts contributed to the continued development of a vibrant ecosystem comprising 358 active members and 77 Muslim-Owned Enterprise (MOE) certificate holders, reinforcing SMCCI’s role as a catalyst for enterprise growth, collaboration, and business excellence.

SMCCI President Abdul Malik Hassan said, “Our focus has always been on creating real opportunities for businesses to grow. Beyond programmes and initiatives, we are building connections, opening doors, and strengthening the support ecosystem that entrepreneurs need to succeed. As businesses face increasing competition and rapid change, SMCCI will continue to champion initiatives that help our members build capabilities, access new markets, and pursue sustainable growth with confidence. The strength of our business community lies not only in individual success, but in our ability to grow together through collaboration, innovation, and shared opportunities.”

Broadening Leadership Participation and Professional Representation

A key outcome of the AGM was the approval of a constitutional amendment allowing Professional Members to stand for election to the Board. Under the previous constitution, Professional Members were permitted to vote and could be appointed to the Board after the AGM, but were not eligible to contest Board elections.

SMCCI President, Abdul Malik Hassan, said the amendment reflects the Chamber’s commitment to broadening participation and drawing on a wider pool of expertise within the business community.

“Professional Members bring valuable industry expertise and professional perspectives. Allowing them to stand for election broadens the diversity of expertise within the Board and creates more opportunities for subject matter experts to contribute meaningfully to SMCCI and the wider business community.

He added, “As the business landscape continues to evolve, it is important that SMCCI remains inclusive and responsive, drawing on diverse experiences and perspectives to better serve the needs of our members and stakeholders.”

Members also approved amendments aimed at strengthening leadership continuity and enhancing board effectiveness. The changes create additional opportunities for professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs to contribute to the Chamber’s development while ensuring that SMCCI remains well-positioned to support the evolving needs of businesses.

Enhancing Member Value Through Digital and Membership Initiatives

The AGM also marked the launch of SMCCI’s new membership card, introduced to strengthen member connectivity and provide easier access to membership benefits, services, and networking opportunities. Available in both physical and digital formats, the membership card is designed to support stronger connections, business networking, and collaboration among members. Members who attended the AGM were among the first to receive access to their digital membership profile. SMCCI also announced a revised membership pricing structure aimed at making membership more accessible to businesses. New members will benefit from an introductory first-year membership rate of S$299, followed by annual renewals at S$250.

As part of its ongoing digital initiatives, SMCCI shared that it is exploring ways to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to improve member services, enhance digital engagement, and provide more timely access to information and support. These efforts include streamlining access to Chamber services and improving access to relevant government policies, incentives, and business support schemes.

The initiatives announced at the AGM reflect SMCCI’s continued commitment to serving the needs of businesses, strengthening member value, and supporting a vibrant and competitive business ecosystem.
