Membership walkabouts are an important way for SMCCI to stay connected with the realities our members face.Â
By meeting members where they operate, we are able to better understand the challenges affecting their businesses. These may be operational or financial, or involve manpower, regulations, rentals, licensing, digitalisation, or access to opportunities.Â
Many of these issues are not always visible from behind a desk. That is why being present on the ground matters.Â
A walkabout gives SMCCI the opportunity to hear directly from business owners, understand their concerns in context and identify where support may be needed. Sometimes, the issue can be addressed through existing SMCCI programmes or business support channels. In other cases, it may require us to connect the member with the right agency, partner or authority.Â
Where there are recurring concerns affecting more than one business, SMCCI can also look at the broader issue and determine whether it should be surfaced to the relevant stakeholders.Â
The purpose is not to promise that every problem can be solved immediately. It is to make sure that members have a channel to raise concerns, and that those concerns are properly understood and directed to the right place.Â
These conversations also help SMCCI stay closer to the realities of the business community.Â
What members share on the ground can help shape our programmes, advocacy efforts, partnerships and the type of support we provide in future.Â
We Want to Hear From YouÂ
If you are an SMCCI member or even a non-member, and would like us to visit your business, hear about the challenges you are facing or understand how we may be able to support you, reach out to the SMCCI team (surian@smcci.org.sg).Â
Your experience on the ground matters — and it helps us serve the business community better.Â
