Seven decades of resilience, enterprise and community. One unforgettable evening celebrating the people who shaped our past and the businesses inspiring our future.

On 23 October 2026, the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SMCCI) marked its 70th Anniversary & Awards Night at Fairmont Singapore, bringing together some 400 business leaders, entrepreneurs, partners and distinguished guests.

The celebration, themed “70 and Beyond: Celebrating Our Roots, Inspiring Our Future,” was graced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam as Guest of Honour, alongside Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Patron of SMCCI.

Reflecting on the milestone, SMCCI President Dr Abdul Malik Hassan shared, “Our 70th anniversary is ultimately about the people and businesses that have shaped our journey.”

In his keynote address, Mr Zaqy Mohamad emphasised the importance of collective progress, urging the business community to look beyond individual success: “Let us build a stronger business community. One that lifts others, opens doors for the next generation, and leaves a legacy we can all be proud of.”

At the heart of the evening were the SMCCI Business Excellence Awards 2026, honouring 14 exceptional businesses and individuals whose achievements reflect the ambition, innovation and resilience of Singapore’s evolving business community.

For Miza Nazili of ShortcutX, winner of the Women Entrepreneur Award, the milestone was an opportunity to call for greater mentorship support, particularly for younger entrepreneurs seeking to start or scale their businesses.

Mohamed Haikkel Firdaus of The SGFR Store, recipient of the Brand Excellence Award, reflected on the importance of community and networking. For him, the evening was more than an awards celebration. It was an opportunity to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, including founders of brands he had admired since his younger days. As he shared, “Without our community, I think as SGFR, I wouldn’t have grown to the scale it is today.” His experience reflected the value of bringing entrepreneurs together, where meaningful connections can inspire collaboration, shared learning and future opportunities.

Anna Belle Francis of Hai Ge Ji, winner of the Best Customer Experience Award, shared how such recognition encourages businesses to continue striving for excellence. She also highlighted the importance of pursuing work with passion, a belief that has guided her entrepreneurial journey.

For Ronald Liong of Tanamera, recipient of the Sustainability & Green Business Award, success comes from recognising and building upon a business’s strengths. He also emphasised the value of SMCCI’s continued guidance and support in helping entrepreneurs navigate an increasingly uncertain business environment.

Our heartfelt congratulations to all 14 award winners and every nominee whose dedication, achievements and entrepreneurial spirit continue to inspire the wider business community.

The evening also marked a new chapter in regional collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), strengthening business connections and opening pathways to opportunities within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Looking Beyond 70: What’s Next for the Business Community?

As SMCCI enters its next chapter, businesses can look forward to new opportunities designed to strengthen their capabilities and unlock business growth.

In his welcome address, Dr Abdul Malik announced two upcoming initiatives: free Google AI and Career Certificate courses on Coursera for SMCCI members, equipping them with practical digital and AI skills, and financial literacy programmes with Accounting Superhero Singapore (ASH) to support better financial management and business decision-making.

Together with the newly established SMCCI–SMF partnership, which aims to facilitate business connections and opportunities within the JS-SEZ, these initiatives reflect the Chamber’s commitment to supporting businesses, fostering meaningful partnerships and strengthening the wider business community.

More details will be shared in the coming months as SMCCI continues to turn partnerships into opportunities and opportunities into business growth.

This milestone would not have been possible without our valued sponsors. SMCCI extends its deepest appreciation to our Platinum Sponsors: Royal Kings Group, TAQWA Organisation, Golden Chance and SME Centre @ SMCCI, and Gold Sponsor: The Landmark Group. Special thanks to HSG Global and Scentopia for their thoughtful door gift contributions.

To our past Presidents, Board Members, members, partners and supporters, thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey.

Our first 70 years were built on the determination of those before us. Our next chapter will be defined by the opportunities we create together.
