A very good afternoon to all
And welcome to the 66th Annual General Meeting of SMCCI.
It is my honour to welcome you to the 66th Annual General Meeting of SMCCI. This year’s AGM marks a significant milestone, as it is also an election year. It provides us with an important opportunity to reflect on our collective progress, assess the challenges ahead, and shape the future of our Chamber. More than just electing new leadership, it is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to uplift and support one another, and to drive impactful change within our business community.
Over the past six years, and particularly since serving as President in 2023, I have had the privilege of working alongside a passionate and dedicated Board, our valued members, and committed partners. Together, we have weathered challenges from the pandemic to shifts in the global economy—and emerged stronger. I am grateful for the spirit of collaboration that defines our Chamber and for the support extended by public agencies, fellow MMOs, and our wider ecosystem.
Looking ahead, I’m heartened by the strong leadership that is set to take SMCCI forward. We have a good mix of existing and new board members stepping up—bringing with them both continuity and fresh perspectives. I have known Dr Abdul Malik Hassan for many years, even before he joined SMCCI, and I was grateful when he accepted the invitation to come onboard. His leadership, together with Mr Azhar Othman, our current Deputy President, will serve SMCCI well.
To all candidates contesting in this year’s elections—thank you for your willingness to serve. Your dedication speaks volumes about the strength of our community. I encourage all members to participate actively in the voting process. Together, we have the power to shape the next chapter of SMCCI.
As I step down, I do so with deep gratitude and confidence in what lies ahead. Thank you for the trust, support, and friendships over the years. Let us continue to move forward with unity, resilience, and optimism.
